Branzi is one of the oldest and most typical cheeses of the Bergamo Alps and is named after the village in the Upper Brembana Valley, in the province of Bergamo, where its traditional production originated.
Originally the herdsmen moved their herds from the barns in the mountains and plains to the mountain pastures of the upper valley of the Brembo river. They then took the cheeses they had made at high altitudes to the Branzi dairies.
